Award in international architecture and design competition

for innovative solar modules in building integration

Preisübergabe ICONIC Awards 2019 - Innovative Material - Best of Best

Elsenfeld, October 2019 - SUNOVATION, manufacturer of functional glass for architectural applications, wins an award for innovative glass-glass modules at the ICONIC Awards 2019. Renowned architects such as RPBW Renzo Piano Building Workshop, Grimshaw Architects, SL Rasch, etc. worldwide rely on SUNOVATION's glass-glass modules as power-generating building envelopes in prestigious projects.

Thanks to the outstanding adaptability of its products, the manufacturer has become the global market leader in the field of customised glass-glass modules for building integration over the past five years.

The international ICONIC AWARDS:Innovative Architecture, created by the German Design Council, award prizes for particularly innovative projects and products in the field of architecture. Awards from the German Design Council are recognised as an independent seal of quality of internationally renown for contemporary development and design achievements. In the category "Innovative Material", the BIPV modules SUNOVATION eFORM were awarded the label "Best of Best" in 2019. This award is given for particularly outstanding submissions in a category. The jury justified this as follows:

SUNOVATION eFORM BIPV modules are customised electricity-generating architectural glasses for integration into the building envelope. The modules are configured exclusively on a project-specific basis. They are available in all conceivable colors, sizes, glass structures and geometries, allowing them to be perfectly adapted to the respective architectural requirements. It is remarkable that the actual PV technology remains invisible behind the glass if required. A highly interesting material with a high-quality appearance and high efficiency that offers architects and planners completely new possibilities in the integration of photovoltaics."

In addition to other awards, nominations were made in the special categories “Architects of the year”, “Interior Designers of the Year” and “Architects’ Client of the Year”. Namely, the British architect Sir David Chipperfield was named Architect of the Year for his outstanding projects, the New York design and art cooperative Snarkitecture was named Interior Designer of the Year for its extraordinary installations, art objects and shop interiors, and the city of Freiburg im Breisgau was honoured for its unprecedented transformation into a Green City.

Moderators Julia Bauer and Andrej Kupetz, managing director of the Council, charmingly guided through the award ceremony, which took place in the architecturally famous Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich. Built by Stephan Baunfels, it is one of the largest collection houses for modern and contemporary art, architecture, and design in Europe. The awarding of the ICONIC AWARDS:Innovative Architecture is decided by an independent and expert jury. It is composed of representatives from the fields of architecture, interior design, design, and brand communication: Jonghwan Baek, WGNB, Seoul, Michel Casertano, Atelier Brückner GmbH, Stuttgart, Marco Dessí, Studio Marco Dessí, Vienna, Asif Khan, Asif Khan Ltd, London, Wiebke Lang, designreport, Frankfurt am Main, Silvia Olp, Phoenix Design, Stuttgart/Munich/Shanghai, Linda Stannieder, GRAFT BRANDLAB GmbH, Berlin, Andrej Kupetz, German Design Council, Frankfurt am Main.

BIPV glass roof for Expo2020 in Dubai

SUNOVATION receives next major order from the Middle East.

March 2019 - SUNOVATION supplies customized BIPV modules for the glass roof of the UAE Sustainability Pavilion at Expo2020 in Dubai.

In addition to the approx. 9,000 m² glass roof of the funnel-shaped "canopy", 18 "solar-trees" will be equipped with approx. 220 m² BIPV solar glass modules each. Almost all modules have a trapezoidal geometry. Altogether, more than 320 different geometries will be produced. SUNOVATION was involved consulting the project from the design stage with the architects (Grimshaw office) to the conceptual layout, the mounting structure, and the interconnection. For SUNOVATION, this is another important large-scale project with which the unique expertise of the BIPV team from Aschaffenburg is recognized internationally.

Glass-glass modules in special design

eForm unichrome auf der Glasstec 2018

October 2018 - SUNOVATION introduces innovative glass-glass modules at the leading trade fair of the international glass industry. The exhibits will be displayed at this year's special show glass technology live 2018.

Exceptional aesthetics and an above-average solar yield characterise the SUNOVATION eFORM glass-glass modules. As part of the special exhibition, SUNOVATION will show samples of its colored glass-glass modules for building integration in various shades on a scale from light to dark, as well as BIPV modules in concrete, graphite and corten steel appearance. SUNOVATION's exposed glass-glass modules' design is a special feature that does not allow any conclusions to be drawn about the power-generating property. The employed photovoltaic-technology optically vanishes due to full-surface printing with UV-resistant and translucent special inks. Visually, they look like pure design glass and thus open up new design potential for the application of photovoltaic modules in building integration.

Glass roof of an art museum in Moscow

SUNOVATION receives major order for glass roof of Russian art museum

February 2018 – Given the close cooperation with international architects, planning offices and metal construction companies, SUNOVATION received another major order for an internationally significant construction project. The new product line SUNOVATION eFORM unichrome, which perfectly meets the complex requirements of the architects, was particularly convincing. The project will be realised through the course of 2018.

Integrated Diode

SUNOVATION realises the first BIPV modules with integrated multi-diodes

May 2017 - For the first time in BIPV modules, SUNOVATION has achieved the integration of multiple diodes in the cell compound. Thanks to the innovative encapsulation technology, it is now possible to avoid a greater loss of power in a module that is used in a shading position for example, by using a corresponding number of diodes. The diodes are not – as usual – mounted on the back but can now be installed in the flexible silicone compound achieving permanent protection. Inform yourself about the various advantages of the SUNOVATION multi-diode!
