SUNOVATION BIPV modules receive general building approval (abZ)

Frameless PV elements for VHF

Obernburg, November 2025 – German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt) grants general building approval (abZ) for SUNOVATION's frameless PV facade element. With the granting of the abZ, the project-related type approval that was previously required is no longer necessary, which simplifies the planning phase and accelerates the implementation of building-integrated PV facades. The abZ also regulates the design of the mechanical dead weight support, which in the case of SUNOVATION VHF elements does not have to be comprehensive, but only surface-mounted, resulting in a reduced, uniform facade appearance.

Sustainable Architecture & Design 2025 / 2026

Obernburg, October 2025 – The recently published Sustainable Architecture & Design 2025/2026 Yearbook presents around 60 visionary projects from around the world. Among these is an award-winning, sustainably modernised residential high-rise in Regensburg with a custom-made, electricity-generating solar facade. SUNOVATION BIPV modules in champagne and black with a fine matt finish are integrated directly into the building envelope over an area of around 770 m². The yearbook is available from AV Edition, a specialist publisher of architecture and design books.

 

A new generation at SUNOVATION

BIPV manufacturer with new management

Obernburg, September 2025 – There is a change in leadership at SUNOVATION, the well-established german BIPV manufacturer. Long-standing managing director Heribert Ley is handing over the reins to Sebastian Clausmeier. SUNOVATION is one of the leading companies in the field of solar power modules for facades and glass roofs. Manufacturing in Germany, the company has already implemented impressive projects and achieved above-average growth in the young building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) market. In Sebastian Clausmeier, the medium-sized company has appointed a new managing director who has gained extensive experience in sales and business development from within its own ranks.

Energy from the facade – Hotel Noxx

History and vision come together in Marburg

Obernburg, April 2025 – The Hotel Noxx generates electricity with a building-integrated photovoltaic facade from SUNOVATION. The solar-active facade is made of SUNOVATION eFORM color High Performance Black glass-glass modules with a fine matte macide surface. On a facade area of almost 100 m², 51 individually manufactured BIPV modules in 7 different geometries with rear back rails are integrated directly into the facade and contribute to sustainable energy generation in the area with an installed capacity of ~17 kWp. Built as an important rail transport hub, then forgotten and left to decay, the area is now experiencing a comeback as a lifestyle area following extensive revitalization and modernization activities. WDR report on BIPV facade

"Shaping the future - preserving the past"

Obernburg, February 2025 - WDR has published a report about the new BIPV facade of the Neanderthal Museum. The museum in Mettmann is one of the most successful archaeological museums in Germany. Due to the need for renovation, the curtain-type glass facade was replaced by a custom-made green BIPV facade from SUNOVATION. The new multi-functional facade not only serves as the building envelope, but will also provide a third of the museum's electricity needs in the future.
